STATE CROSS COUNTRY

When: Today.

Where: Woodward Park, Fresno.

Distance: 5,000 meters (3.1 miles).

Boys individuals: University City's Mac Fleet, who dominated the San Diego Section Division III final and hungers to win a state title, is the one to watch in Fresno. Barstow's Isaac Chavez is the state's top returning runner in Division III, finishing fifth in 2007.

Boys team: Patrick Henry was impressive in winning the section Division I title, placing three runners in the top five. At state, one of the Patriots runners will have to close the 36-second gap between fourth and fifth, which could be 50 points.

Girls individual: Rancho Bernardo's Molly Grabill is focusing on the Division I title, but she isn't the only San Diegan with gold in her sights. Sammy Silva of Our Lady of Peace was second here a year ago in Division III, and Lincoln's four-time section champ Elizabeth Apgar was third in Division II.

Girls team: Torrey Pines put together its best race of the season in the section finals, but there is room for improvement. The Falcons are expected to battle Orange County's Dana Hills for the Division I title.
