SAN DIEGO COUNTY FAIR
In the ribbons: J.B. Reynolds

UNION-TRIBUNE

June 21, 2008

Judges' choice: La Mesa resident J.B. Reynolds won the award for Most Unusual Collection with his “Things I've Found Near Bus Stops.” The collection of about 100 items includes a map of San Diego County showing where the bus stops are located and where the items were found.

Background: Reynolds, 45, has a number of collections, including postcards and key chains. About a year ago, he began saving things he found at bus stops such as toys, travel mugs, cell phones, beverage cans and coins. If the item is valuable, he will turn it in to transit authorities.

How he got started: The first thing he found was a cell phone. The most unusual, a walking cane.

Comment: “I find about $5 a week in change and make $10 a week in recyclables, so it's paid off.”

Tip for learning more: Be observant!
